This is the third recipe she has sent to us and we know she is a great cook, so we strongly recommend you to take a look at this one&#8230; Enjoy!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-714\" src=\"http:\/\/thephilologistugr20.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/12\/uk-vegetable-pastry-case.png\" alt=\"uk-vegetable-pastry-case\" width=\"539\" height=\"351\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>1 lb puff pastry.<\/li>\n<li>1 egg yolk.<\/li>\n<li>2 onions.<\/li>\n<li>2 cloves garlic.<\/li>\n<li>8 oz mushrooms.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a02 tablespoons butter.<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons flour.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00bc cup cream.<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons finely chopped almonds.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a04 tomatoes.<\/li>\n<li>1 cup frozen peas.<\/li>\n<li>Salt &amp; pepper.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Roll out pastry to half thickness.<\/li>\n<li>Cut round 8-inch pot lid and cut smaller circle in middle not quite through.<\/li>\n<li>Mark with criss-cross pattern, brush top with beaten egg yolk.<\/li>\n<li>Put on wetted baking tray and bake at 450\u00baF for 25 mins.<\/li>\n<li>When cooked, scrape out lid and fill shell.<\/li>\n<li>Peel and slice onions, crush garlic, slice mushrooms.<\/li>\n<li>Fry in butter, add cream, almonds and peas.<\/li>\n<li>Simmer gently for 5 mins, then fill case.<\/li>\n<li>Serve hot with salad.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Author: Celia Margaret Wallhead Salway<\/p>\n<p>Editor and image: E.R.S.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another English recipe, Vegetable pastry case (savoury vol-au-vent), by Celia Margaret Wallhead, professor of the Department of English and German.
